Shoulder joint gives mobility to the upper extremity. The shoulder joint is more mobile joint of the body. But more mobility may lead to increasing problems with instability and impingement of soft tissue resulting in pain.
You may feel pain at your shoulder joint only when you move your shoulder or all the time. Pain may be temporary or it may continue and require early diagnosis and medical management.
Shoulder pain and common shoulder problems
Common problems of the shoulder joint:
If your shoulder is pulled back too hard and rotated too far, your top of your arm might become out of its socket, it is called dislocation of shoulder. You will feel pain and weakness at your shoulder with swelling, numbness and bruising.
Shoulder impingement occurs when the acromion give pressure on the underlying tissues. Pressure may occur when arm is lifted away from the body. This can leads to bursitis and tendinitis causing pain and limiting movement. It may also affects the rotator cuff muscle.
More common arthritis in shoulder joint is osteoarthritis. It is degenerative joint disease. The cartilage between bones breaks down, and they rub together. This can cause pain and stiffness.
- RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS
This is the disease that causes your body’s immune system to attack the protective lining in your joints. It can cause pain and stiffness of your shoulder joint.
It is called inflammation of bursa. The bursa which is filled with fluid, act as cushion in your joint. Sometimes bursa get swollen and irritated if you repeat the same movement again and again. Sometimes it may occur due to fall on joint or injury to joint. It causes pain during movement.
- ROTATOR CUFF TEAR
Rotator cuff muscle is the group of muscle and tendon which helps to hold your shoulder in place. It may tear by overuse of that muscle or wear and tear due to age. It causes pain at shoulder more in the night and u can also heard a crackling sound when you move it.
- FROZEN SHOULDER
Frozen shoulder is the common name for adhesive capsulitis, which is a shoulder condition that limits you range of motion. It causes stiffness and pain in shoulder joint.
A bone can break or crack if you fall on your joint. Most common breaks are the clavicle and the humerus. You will have lot pain and bruise.
